Basketball Recap: San Ysidro Comes Up Short

San Ysidro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They had to suffer through an 86-45 loss at the hands of the Bonita Vista Barons. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1197th, while the Barons are ranked 220th).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Miranda, who posted six points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Juan Ibarra, who put up ten points.

Leading Bonita Vista to victory were Jerry Stokes and Aaron Owens. Stokes earned 26 points, while Owens scored 18 points. Those 26 points gave Stokes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Rosales, who had ten points.

San Ysidro's loss dropped their record down to 2-23. As for Bonita Vista, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-8.

Looking ahead, San Ysidro will head out on the road to take on Otay Ranch at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Otay Ranch is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season. As for Bonita Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mar Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bonita Vista also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 59.8 points per game.
