Baseball Recap: St. Dominic Makes It Four in a Row at Home

St. Dominic proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Webster Groves Statesmen. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Statesmen recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Chase Spurgeon looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Christopher Eggering was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Flamm Jr., who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

St. Dominic's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Webster Groves, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-20 record this season.

St. Dominic will take on St. Charles West at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last four games the Warriors have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Webster Groves, they will welcome Howell at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
