Baseball Recap: Basalt Comes Up Short

Basalt had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 9-8 to make it five. They came up short against the Delta Panthers, falling 10-0. If the Longhorns were looking for revenge after losing 10-4 to the Panthers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Basalt saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Hays, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Delta, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.

On Delta's side, Ty Reed made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Reed a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Deacon Shean, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Ripp Lockhart was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Delta beat Basalt by a score of 12-2 later that day.
