Baseball Recap: Hill Comes Up Short

Hill extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They fell 7-3 to the Piedmont Hills Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Tuesday.

AJ Meraz was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Hill is 2-1 when Meraz posts two or more runs, but 1-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zach Calhoun, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

As for Piedmont Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.

On Piedmont Hills' side, Travis Linane was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Linane is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Donte Butler was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Hill is set to face off against their familiar foe Evergreen Valley at 12:00 p.m. on the 26th. Meanwhile, Piedmont Hills will challenge rival Del Mar at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
