Recap: Mount St. Charles Academy Mounties vs. Smithfield Sentinels
On Wednesday, the Mount St. Charles Academy Mounties faced the Smithfield Sentinels in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mount St. Charles Academy walked away with a 56-43 victory over Smithfield. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mount St. Charles Academy.
Mount St. Charles Academy was led to victory by Anna Dziun and Addison Johnson. Dziun scored 13 points along with seven steals, while Johnson scored 24 points along with seven steals and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Addie Stojanowski, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Smithfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annabelle Lally, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlin Kelley, who scored six points.
Mount St. Charles Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Smithfield, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount St. Charles Academy will take on Cranston East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cranston East will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Rhode Island Rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Mount St. Charles Academy is ranked tenth). As for Smithfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Prout at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
