Softball Game Preview: Montgomery Aztecs vs. Hilltop Lancers

Montgomery is 0-4 against Hilltop since March of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Aztecs will venture away from home to take on the Lancers at 3:30 p.m. Montgomery is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Montgomery played against Castle Park on Friday and won via forfeit.

Mar Vista hit Hilltop with a five-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lancers took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mariners. The defeat continues a trend for the Lancers in their meetings with the Mariners: they've now lost three in a row.

Catherine Vasquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits.

On the hitting side, Ninoshka Castro was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kaylani Sablan, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Montgomery's victory bumped their record up to 16-7-1. As for Hilltop, their loss dropped their record down to 9-15-1.

Montgomery suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Hilltop in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Aztecs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
