Baseball Recap: Kennett Has No Trouble Against Portageville

Kennett lost to Portageville back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Indians were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Bulldogs. That looming 8-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Indians yet this season.

Hayden Gilmore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Gilmore was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zayne Franklin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Cash Franklin, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Kennett and bumps their season record up to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Portageville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Kennett will square off against Sikeston at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Portageville, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 10-5 victory against Twin Rivers on the 15th.
