Softball Game Preview: Vardaman Rams vs. Winona Tigers

Vardaman is a perfect 3-0 against Winona since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Vardaman Rams will host the Winona Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Vardaman has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Vardaman was handed a six-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Winona, sneaking past 15-13. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rams needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Addi Lucius made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off two hits. Lucius was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, Haley Parker was a standout: she scored three runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Chandler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Vardaman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Vardaman is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. Winona is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.
