Softball Recap: Foothill Victorious

With a playoff win on the line, Foothill rose to the challenge on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers 3-2.

Capri Gallego spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rodriguez Haley, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Makaela Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Foothill hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 5-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Foothill is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-14 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra Canyon, they moved to 12-10 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Foothill will be playing in front of their home fans against Harvard-Westlake at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in the Knights' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Wolverines have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Sierra Canyon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
