Highlands Ranch hasn't had much luck against Chaparral recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Falcons are taking a road trip to square off against the Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. Highlands Ranch will be strutting in after a victory while Chaparral will be coming in after a defeat.
On Friday, Highlands Ranch was able to grind out a solid win over Ponderosa, taking the game 3-1. The match marked the Falcons' most dominant victory of the season.
Highlands Ranch got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the third set. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-20, 28-30, 27-25.
Meanwhile, Chaparral faced Legend in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Wolverines fell just short of the Titans by a score of 3-2. The Wolverines have struggled against the Titans recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Chaparral wouldn't go down easily and took Legend into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-14, 15-11.
Highlands Ranch will have to keep a close watch on Ava Johnson and Brooke Wildhagen, a pair of players who had a big impact on Chaparral's prior game. Johnson had 17 digs and five aces, while Wildhagen had 16 digs and one assist. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played.
Chaparral's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for Highlands Ranch, their win ended a four-match drought on the road and puts them at 3-11.
Highlands Ranch suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Chaparral when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
