Softball Recap: St. Marys Picks Up 12th Straight Win at Home

While St. Marys's win against Clearfield wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Flying Dutch had just enough and edged out the Bison 2-1 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Flying Dutch in their matchups with the Bison: they've now won five in a row.

Avery Eckels made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Molly Hanslovan was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.

St. Marys pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Clearfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Marys will square off against Elk County Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Clearfield, they will face off against Bellwood-Antis at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
