Softball Game Preview: Kennedy Fighting Irish vs. Segerstrom Jaguars

The Kennedy Fighting Irish will head out on the road to square off against the Segerstrom Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Kennedy fell victim to Fullerton and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Fighting Irish's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Emory Cheng spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Segerstrom was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Garden Grove.

Jaden Fraser was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelene Bautista, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

The loss snapped Kennedy's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-14 record. As for Segerstrom, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.

Everything went Kennedy's way against Segerstrom in their previous meeting on April 4th, as Kennedy made off with a 14-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Irish since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
