League recap: Frederick scores huge upset over Holy Family

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Holy Family, who took down 47th ranked Holy Family, 21-7. Jacob Sleeth ran for 131 yards in the win.

Centaurus and Thomas Jefferson played the most hotly contested game in 3A Northern this week, with Centaurus eventually emerging with a 12-7 victory.

Jakob Vargas made the biggest impact on defense this week as Frederick beat the Tigers. The 6-foot-2 senior forced one fumble and grabbed one sack.

Donaciano Ornelas put up the best numbers through the air as Denver North fell to Erie. He had a total of nine completions for 127 yards. Ornelas' favorite target this week was Robert Castillo, who caught two passes for 55 yards.

Christian Mickey was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 181 yards as the Tigers fell to the Warriors. Teammate Joey Ramey added to the ground attack by rushing for 79 yards.

David Sommers provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Mike Gabriel's team lost to Frederick. He completed 10 passes for 119 yards and also ran for 65 yards. Sommers' favorite target this week was Erb, who caught four passes for 64 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Sommers and Jarred Deherrera the Tigers have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Sommers leads the league in passing with 1283 yards, while Deherrera has rushed for 989 yards this season. The Vikings' Simeon Freeland leads the league in receiving yards with 354 on 25 catches.

Deherrera of the Holy Family is only 11 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Tigers take on Centaurus. As it stands, Holy Family is in first, while Chad Senseney's team is in fifth.

Erie took down Denver North 41-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Mickey in the win.
