Softball Recap: Cumberland Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Cumberland's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Ladysmith Lumberjacks. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Beavers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Morgan Monchilovich was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Macy Beecroft and Presli Butzler did most of the damage at the plate: Beecroft went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Butzler went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Cumberland pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ladysmith, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Looking ahead, Cumberland will venture away from home to face off against Northwestern at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Beavers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ladysmith, they will square off against Barron at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks are facing the Golden Bears at the right time seeing as the Golden Bears are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
