Softball Recap: St. Helens Extends Home Winning Streak to 19

St. Helens faced Astoria in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Lions won by a run and slipped past the Fishermen 7-6. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won eight contests in a row.

Eme Curaming spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addy Ellis, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Hancock, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

St. Helens' win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Astoria, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-4-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Helens will host Tillamook at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Astoria, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against North Bend.
