Recap: Blackford Bruins vs. Delta Eagles

The Blackford Bruins won the last time they faced the Delta Eagles, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Blackford rang in the new year with a 53-40 victory over Delta. Given Blackford's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Delta is ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Blackford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chloe Wicker led the charge by scoring 20 points along with four steals. The contest was Wicker's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bralee Vanskyock, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.

Griffyn Knight and Jillian Barr certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Knight scored 15 points along with six steals, while Barr scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks. Barr has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played.

Blackford's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Delta, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blackford will take on Oak Hill at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Oak Hill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday. Delta will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jay County at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th.
