Softball Game Preview: Northside Mustangs vs. Payton College Prep Grizzlies

The Northside Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Payton College Prep Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Northside has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Northside came into this matchup off a tough 11-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Regina Dominican by a score of 11-9 on Wednesday. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jilliyn Yung stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Yailyn Medina, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Payton College Prep lost 11-3 to Fenwick on Friday. The Grizzlies have struggled against the Friars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Molly Vann made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Saya Tanabe was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Northside's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Payton College Prep, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Payton College Prep's pitching crew better be locked in on Monday. Northside hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. It's a different story for Payton College Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Northside in the park?

Northside couldn't quite finish off Payton College Prep when the teams last played last Wednesday and fell 7-5. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
