Basketball Game Preview: Nelson County Governors vs. Appomattox County Raiders

The Nelson County Governors will challenge the Appomattox County Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Nelson County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games.

Nelson County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryce Giles led the charge by dropping a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards. Giles' evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Ward, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.

Nelson County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Appomattox County beat Dan River 53-48 on Tuesday.

Nelson County better focus on containing Owen Chavis and Riley Chandler as the pair were huge in Appomattox County's win. Chavis went 7-for-13 on his way to 19 points in addition to six boards and five blocks, while Chandler went 7-for-10 en route to 15 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Chandler a new career-high in points. Levi Mann was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Appomattox County's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Nelson County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Nelson County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 41.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Appomattox County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
