Basketball Recap: Alexis Laguna Pesqueira's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sunnyside over Flowing Wells

Sunnyside blew Flowing Wells out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Saturday Flowing Wells got their revenge. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Caballeros by a score of 70-68. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (61), the Blue Devils still had to take the loss.

Sunnyside's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexis Laguna Pesqueira, who posted 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Johnson, who earned 14 points.

Flowing Wells' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Martinez led the charge by dropping a double-double with 25 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Martinez is now averaging an impressive 17 points per game. Another player making a difference was O'Shay Walker, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Sunnyside and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Flowing Wells, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Sunnyside is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Nogales at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Flowing Wells, they will square off against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
