Basketball Game Preview: South Central Trojans vs. Danbury Lakers

The South Central Trojans will take on the Danbury Lakers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Central has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with 17 straight losses, while Danbury will come in with five straight wins.

South Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 60-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Black River on Saturday.

Calvert typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Danbury proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 50-43 victory over the Senecas.

South Central better focus on containing Maci Brown and Mia McDonald as the pair were huge in Danbury's win. Brown almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards, while McDonald dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. Brown has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 28 times she's played. Thea Brickner was another key player, putting up nine points.

Danbury smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

South Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-21. As for Danbury, they pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

South Central suffered a grim 62-36 defeat to Danbury in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can South Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
