Softball Recap: Dupo Takes a Loss

Dupo extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Steeleville Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 on Tuesday.

Addison Thompson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Thompson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Adrienne Latimer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Kaitlyn Roberts was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Steeleville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

Like Dupo, Steeleville also got a great game from a two-way player: Corinne Mueller. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Mueller has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Steeleville let Karsen Wedemeyer and Zoey Wolf run wild. Wedemeyer went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Wolf went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That double was Wedemeyer's first of the season.

Dupo has already played their next match, a 9-0 win against New Athens on the 22nd. As for Steeleville, they will take on DuQuoin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
