The Kearny Komets will venture away from home to take on the La Jolla Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
Kearny made up a huge gap compared to their last game against High Tech SD, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Komets fell just short of the Storm by a score of 9-7 on Wednesday. The Komets have struggled against the Storm recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, La Jolla made easy work of Hoover on Wednesday and carried off a 17-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won five in a row.
Natalie Alvarez and Savannah Putnam made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Alvarez pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Putnam tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Alvarez went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Putnam went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Alvarez a new career-high.
In other batting news, La Jolla let Jerri Taylor and Roxanne Metcalf run wild. Taylor went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Metcalf got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aviv Laska, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
La Jolla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Kearny's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for La Jolla, their record now sits at 6-12.
Kearny came out on top in a nail-biter against La Jolla when the teams last played two weeks ago, sneaking past 22-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Komets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
