Softball Recap: Wellington Triumphs

Wellington hadn't done well against Lyons recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Eagles walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Lions. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 10-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Taylor Morgan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, Kensley Story and Scarlet McGuire did most of the damage at the plate: Story went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while McGuire went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those three hits gave McGuire a new career-high.

Wellington has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.0 runs this season. As for Lyons, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wellington will venture away from home to challenge The Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Lyons, they are taking a road trip to square off against Limon at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
