Preview: Fairview Knights vs. Poudre Impalas
Two dominant guards in Bella Chang and Kavi Voglund are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Fairview Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Poudre Impalas at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fairview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Friday.
Fairview pushed their score all the way to 55, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 68-55 to Rocky Mountain. While losing is never fun, Fairview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Rocky Mountain is ranked 28th).
Despite the loss, Fairview got a solid performance out of Chang, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Chang is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Remy Tolar, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Poudre posted their biggest victory since December 5, 2023 on Saturday. They put the hurt on Prairie View with a sharp 52-32 win. The victory was just what Poudre needed coming off of a 57-35 loss in their prior contest.
Voglund was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Maggie Foster, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Fairview and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Poudre, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Fairview have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Poudre, though, as they've been averaging only 28.9 rebounds per game. Given Fairview's sizeable advantage in that area, Poudre will need to find a way to close that gap.
Fairview took a serious blow against Poudre in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 57-28. Can Fairview avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
