Softball Recap: Cibola Drops Season-High Score on Maryvale

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cibola). They blew past the Maryvale Panthers 24-1 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Alessandra Martinez looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Stephanie Garcia was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aliana Padilla, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Cibola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.

Cibola's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Maryvale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.

Cibola will head out to square off against Westwood at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Maryvale, they will be playing at home against South Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
