Basketball Recap: Juan Diego Catholic Takes a Loss

Juan Diego Catholic and Canyon View squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Juan Diego Catholic had to settle for second. They came up short against the Canyon View Falcons, falling 64-38. While losing is never fun, the Soaring Eagle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Falcons are ranked 21st).

Canyon View's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maylee Spencer, who went 7-for-14 on her way to 19 points. Another player making a difference was Bethanee Vargas, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Juan Diego Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Canyon View, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Juan Diego Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Canyon View, they will take on Juab at 5:50 p.m. on February 24th. Canyon View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Juab likes a good challenge.
