Recap: Westminster Wolves vs. Denver South Ravens

If the Westminster Wolves were feeling good off their 77-55 takedown of the Kennedy Commanders last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Westminster took a 57-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Denver South on Wednesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Westminster in their matchups with Denver South: they've now lost six in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Westminster lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dre Gaytan. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with six assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gaytan has scored all season. Daigan Gray was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Denver South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonathan Trease, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Rhoades-martinez, who scored ten points along with two blocks.

Westminster's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Denver South, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.

Westminster will head out on the road to challenge Hinkley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Westminster is ranked 210th, while Hinkley is ranked 233rd). As for Denver South, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rangeview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 60.95 points so far this season, Denver South's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Rangeview better be ready for a challenge.
