Basketball Recap: Martin County Comes Up Short

Martin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost an 83-81 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Charleston Black Eagles. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (66), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.

Martin County's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for South Charleston, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Martin County will challenge Phelps at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Martin County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Phelps likes a good challenge. As for South Charleston, they will face off against Huntington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
