Soccer Game Preview: Emporia vs. Washburn Rural

Emporia is 0-6 against Washburn Rural since May of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out to face off against the Blues.

Emporia is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to eight goals on Monday, they were much more limited against Liberal on Thursday. They fell 3-1 to the Redskins.

Meanwhile, Washburn Rural had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.2 goals) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They came out on top against the Thunder by a score of 3-1.

Washburn Rural's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those six contests. As for Emporia, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Emporia suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Washburn Rural when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
