Basketball Recap: Holy Trinity Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Desiree Smith and Jasmine Waszak

Holy Trinity was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. 2025 welcomed they with a 44-24 loss courtesy of the St. Dominic Bayhawks. The Titans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bayhawks from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Holy Trinity had strong showings from Jasmine Waszak, who posted four points along with seven blocks and six boards, and Desiree Smith, who put up five points. The dominant performance gave Waszak a new career-high in blocks.

Even though they lost, Holy Trinity smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Holy Trinity's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for St. Dominic, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Holy Trinity will welcome St. John the Baptist at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Dominic, they will venture away from home to face off against Uniondale at 12:00 p.m. on January 11th.
