Softball Game Preview: Zeeland West Dux vs. Oakridge Eagles

Zeeland West is 0-3 against Oakridge since May of 2023 but things could change on Wednesday. The Dux will welcome the Eagles at 4:15 p.m. Zeeland West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

It was a classic East v. West duel when Zeeland West took on Zeeland East on Tuesday. The Dux were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over the Chix. The Dux's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Madison Wyckoff made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Maddi Veersma was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Brower, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Zeeland West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Oakridge fell victim to Rockford and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 8-0 to the Rams. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since April 18, 2024.

Oakridge's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-2. As for Zeeland West, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
