Softball Recap: Sequoyah's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Sequoyah had lost six straight, but after bumping their record up to 4-13 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the South-Doyle Cherokees as they made off with a 20-9 victory. That 11-run margin sets a new team best for the Chiefs this season.

Morgan Worley was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Faith Ferree was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Sequoyah was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

As for South-Doyle, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13. They haven't had much luck with Sequoyah recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

On South-Doyle's side, Aleah Spurgeon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that Spurgeon has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Addyson Carpenter, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Sequoyah will face off against Tellico Plains at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for South-Doyle, they will square off against Campbell County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
