Softball Recap: Perkiomen Valley Vikings vs. North Penn Knights
Perkiomen Valley had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 12-11 to make it four. They came up short against the North Penn Knights, falling 11-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.
Perkiomen Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Sharkey, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for North Penn, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 20-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.
On North Penn's side, Felicia Connolly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 17 Ks. Connolly has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Alana Battavio was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Battavio, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
While Perkiomen Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
