Softball Recap: Weiser Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Weiser made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Homedale, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 14-3 victory on Monday. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

Madi Janicek made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ellie Shirts was a standout: she scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordan Stromberg, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Weiser always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Homedale only posted an OBP of .375.

The win (which was Weiser's ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Homedale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Weiser will have a chance to go back-to-back against Homedale: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
