Football Recap: Martin Skates Past Grand Prairie with Ease

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Martin on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Grand Prairie Gophers out of the water with a 65-6 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-0.

Martin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was ' Ty Ingram out in front who picked up 55 receiving yards and two scores. Javian Jones-Priest was another key back, rushing for 61 yards and one TD on only five carries.

Another reason for the win was Martin's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. In that department, Kellen Davis was the leader with two. Martin received some extra help from Jones-Priest, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Chancellor Tealer, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from De'Marius Hoye.

Martin's record now sits at 2-3. As for Grand Prairie, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Coming up, after each having a week off, Martin and Bowie will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on October 9. As for Grand Prairie, they will face off against Haltom at 7:00 p.m. on October 9. The Gophers will be up against the Buffalos' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38.2 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
