Basketball Recap: Laurel Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

It's playoff time, and Laurel had no trouble coming through when it counted. They enjoyed a cozy 62-47 win over the Streetsboro Rockets on Saturday. That's more bragging rights for the Gators, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Streetsboro's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Naomi Benson, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 14 boards. Benson has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Carlee Bedford, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Laurel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points over those games. The defeat snapped Streetsboro's winning streak at 11 games and leaves them with a 23-4 record.

Looking ahead, Laurel will take on Bellevue in a tournament on March 8th. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Bellevue sitting on 13 straight victories and Laurel on eight. Streetsboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
