Softball Game Preview: Martin Tigers vs. Rio Grande City Rattlers

Martin hasn't had much luck against Rio Grande City recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Martin Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Rio Grande City Rattlers at 6:00 p.m. Martin has given up an average of 14.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Martin is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 16th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They lost 19-0 to Cigarroa. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Tigers have suffered against the Toros since March 9, 2021.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rio Grande City). They put the hurt on Palmview with a sharp 17-2 victory on Friday. That's two games straight that the Rattlers have won by exactly 15 runs.

Rio Grande City is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. Martin's defeat dropped their record down to 0-15.

Martin suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Rio Grande City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Martin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
