Baseball Recap: Jamestown Wins Going Away Against Tuscumbia

Jamestown owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They blew past the Tuscumbia Lions 9-0. Jamestown hasn't had any issues with Tuscumbia recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Tate Duncan made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Coonce, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Jamestown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Ty Dedrick also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Jamestown's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Tuscumbia, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Jamestown will challenge Prairie Home at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Tuscumbia, they will square off against Calvary Lutheran at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calvary Lutheran has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.6 runs per game on average), something Tuscumbia will no doubt try to take advantage of.
