Football Game Preview: Lyford Bulldogs vs. Progreso Red Ants

Lyford has gone a perfect 6-0 against Progreso recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Red Ants at 7:00 p.m. Progreso took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Lyford, who comes in off a win.

Lyford took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They took down Santa Gertrudis Academy 31-16. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Bulldogs' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Lyford didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Randall Chavez, Aiden Rubalcaba, and Jaylon Klostermann picked up one apiece. Klostermann also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 14.

Meanwhile, Progreso was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were dealt a 46-0 loss at the hands of Falfurrias.

Lyford's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.8 points on average over those games. As for Progreso, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Everything came up roses for Lyford against Progreso when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 48-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
