The Green Bay Preble Hornets are taking a road trip to square off against the Ashwaubenon Jaguars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Green Bay Preble sitting on 23 straight wins and Ashwaubenon on four.
Green Bay Preble came out on top against Sheboygan North on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Hornets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Golden Raiders a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 14 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Ashwaubenon made easy work of Green Bay Southwest on Saturday and carried off a 20-0 victory. The Jaguars are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the 13th contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Berritt Herr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Elly Kirst was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Jocelyn Wirth was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Ashwaubenon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Bay Southwest only posted a batting average of .000.
Green Bay Preble's win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ashwaubenon, their record now sits at 20-4.
Green Bay Preble beat Ashwaubenon 5-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
