The Twin Falls Bruins will square off against the Capital Golden Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Twin Falls has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Twin Falls' tournament run continued when they took on La Grande on Saturday. Twin Falls fell just short of La Grande by a score of 16-15. The Bruins have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Twin Falls got a big performance out of Libby Torgrimson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Hadley Fowler, who scored two runs and stole two bases.
Even though they lost, Twin Falls was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Capital faced Middleton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Capital came out on top in a nail-biter against Middleton, sneaking past 9-8.
Juel Cavesuela spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, McKenna Chavez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two doubles, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Stone, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.
Twin Falls' loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Capital, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Twin Falls hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Capital struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
