Basketball Recap: Dynamic duo of Sarah Prince and Katye Jones lead Leake Academy to victory

Basketball Recap: Leake Academy Rebels vs. Lamar Raiders

Make it 21 blowout wins for the Leake Academy Rebels this season. They were the clear victor by a 66-45 margin over Lamar. Given Leake Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Raiders are ranked 76th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Leake Academy to victory were Sarah Prince and Katye Jones. Prince scored 12 points along with two steals, while Jones scored 15 points along with two steals. Prince is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Morgan Young, who scored eight points along with three steals.

Lamar's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aryah Grace, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Blake Hart was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.

Leake Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 27-5 record this season. As for Lamar, they now have a losing record at 13-14.

Leake Academy will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Mustangs at 5:15 p.m. on February 6th. Pillow Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully the Rebels like a good challenge. As for Lamar, they will take on the Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rossville Christian Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
