Basketball Recap: Northwest Starts Season with Victory at Home

Northwest gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They strolled past the Kearney Catholic Stars with points to spare, taking the game 57-43. This was payback for the Vikings, who suffered a 57-53 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Northwest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cam Walker out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Jaden Brandt was another key player, going 5 for 7 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Northwest was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Kearney Catholic still got an impressive performance from Owen Axmann, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Hogeland, who had ten points and seven rebounds.

Northwest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-49 loss against Gretna East on the 7th. As for Kearney Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 47-45 victory against St. Patrick's on the 10th.
