Baseball Recap: Killian Has No Trouble Against Coral Reef

While Killian put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Coral Reef. Killian blew past Coral Reef 11-0. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 9-5 victory the Barracudas walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2021.

The result came thanks to Brandon Pfeiffer's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Killian is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Killian let Jacob Popowski and Lucas Arcaute run wild. Popowski went 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double, while Arcaute scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Killian is undefeated when Arcaute posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Jonathan Acosta was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Killian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Killian's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Coral Reef, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Killian will venture away from home to take on Belen Jesuit at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Belen Jesuit's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Killian's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Coral Reef, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sunset at 3:30 p.m. on April 3.
