Baseball Game Preview: Escalon Cougars vs. Ripon Indians

Escalon is 2-8 against Ripon since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cougars will face off against the Indians at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Escalon is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They came up short against Hughson, falling 13-4.

Lorenzo Texeira made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Escalon: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Ripon might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Argonaut who claimed the real prize. The Indians fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-2.

Logan Spear was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Escalon's record now sits at 10-9. As for Ripon, their record is now 8-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Escalon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ripon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Escalon came up short against Ripon when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 7-3. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
