Softball Recap: Monroe's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

Monroe dropped their record down to 8-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Saline Hornets. The Trojans were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the four contests prior), but the Hornets' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Saline, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games.

For Saline's part, the result came thanks to Abby Curtis's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 15 Ks. Curtis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Casey Griffin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Hastings, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe will welcome Huron at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans are facing the River Rats at the right time seeing as the River Rats are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Saline, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Skyline at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
