Softball Recap: 16 Straight Home Victories for Quitman

Quitman entered their tilt with Simsboro on Thursday with six consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with seven. They were the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over the Simsboro Tigers. The Wolverines have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

Cali Deal and Brenna Lamkin were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Deal struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Lamkin pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. With that strong performance, Deal is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. At the plate, Deal scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Lamkin scored a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Kinsley Ponder was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hallie Kate Pullig, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Quitman pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Simsboro, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-6 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Quitman will venture away from home to face off against LaSalle at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Simsboro, they will head out on the road to square off against Choudrant at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
