Baseball Recap: Sacred Heart Wins Going Away Against Lumberton

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Sacred Heart ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over the Lumberton Panthers. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Kyron Murphy made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off only two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Sacred Heart is undefeated when Murphy posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Sacred Heart got a massive performance out of Darren Brown, who went 4-for-6 with five RBI and two runs. Brown has become a key player for Sacred Heart: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colter Garner, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Sacred Heart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Sacred Heart pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Lumberton, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4-1.

Sacred Heart will have a chance to go back-to-back against Lumberton: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
