Soccer Game Recap: Charleston vs. Taylorville

After failing to score in their last matchup, Charleston made sure to put some goals up on the board against Taylorville on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Tornadoes a 9-0 shutout. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Charleston's offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Their offense was hitting Taylorville from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal. Russell Applegate led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 6-12. As for Taylorville, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-18.

Coming up, Charleston will venture away from home to challenge Effingham at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Effingham will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Charleston surely won't give up without a fight. As for Taylorville, they will welcome Mattoon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
