The Poinciana Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Lake Region Thunder at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Region took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Poinciana, who comes in off a win.
Poinciana took a loss when they played away from home on September 12th, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They blew past Haines City 36-13. Considering the Eagles' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Poinciana's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chance Frazier led the charge by rushing for 71 yards and one touchdown, while also picking up 47 receiving yards and one TD. Kamari Lewis was another key player, rushing for 80 yards and a pair of scores.
Poinciana's run defense was locked in: Haines City could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. While four picked up at least seven total tackles, Frazier stood above the rest. He rushed for 71 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 47 receiving yards and one TD. Poinciana didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.7.
Poinciana's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Haines City's QB won't forget Jamel George anytime soon given he sacked him 2.5 times.
Meanwhile, Lake Region unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 54-0 defeat at the hands of Lake Wales. While losing is never fun, the Thunder can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 407th, while the Highlanders are ranked 78th).
Lake Region's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Poinciana, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3.
Poinciana took their win against Lake Region when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 31-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
